Finding Home Again: From Southern California to Eagle, Idaho

Some moves start with a dream. This one started with a loss.
When I met my client, he was relocating to Idaho from the Southern California area. He had lost his home, and nearly everything in it, in the Palisades fire. He was worn down by the state of things in California and ready for a fresh start. He wanted a place where people look out for each other and common sense and decency still go a long way. He wasn't the first person to feel that way about Idaho, and he won't be the last.
We spent about a month touring homes in Eagle. There was no shortage of gorgeous houses, but gorgeous wasn't the bar. He was leaving a home he loved in the coastal hills, and that's a tough act to follow. He needed a home with character, beauty, maturity and class. It had to feel lived in and loved, not just new.
Then we drove through the Two Rivers neighborhood. Mature trees. Water. Custom homes with real personality. It felt close to home, and you could see it on his face.
We found a home on the golf course with the space, tranquility and charm he'd been looking for. We got it under asking price, and the sellers agreed to every repair we requested.
He'll never forget the home he lost. But this one in Eagle is making the move easier, and that's the part I'm proudest of.
What I took from it: When someone relocates after a loss, the search is about more than square footage and finishes. Give yourself time to tour, even a full month, because the homes you don't choose help you define what "home" feels like. And shop the neighborhood as much as the house.
